My artistic research is based on the contamination’s concept. That’s to say interactions, trespassings, fusions between images and word-sign. And through all these means I want to create new icons. Using cautiously the verbal painting’s idea. The meaning of my work is this. Using words, colours, architectures, pictures, maps, Let’s say that I’m trying to enforce the image to become imagination, through contamination. We have forms that are changing, they try to develop, they express a construction process. The verbal element with is physical presence doesn’t exist anymore. From being descriptive word, identification word changes to some structure, to be finally architecture . The aim of my work is the concept writing – antiwriting.
In these collages series,  Cotognini's images reference  the specimens of natural science and sociology. Most affective are when they sit within grid notations that conjure a sense of early astrology, or space and time continuum. The numbered geometrical shapes are his specimen slides and they present an iconoclastic logic. Faded by a different measurement of time, they are phantoms with no discernible articulation but still they seem to present themselves as hard evidence. These layers trick the the eye, defy the preciousness of tableau with incomplete energy lines, the merging of art and science, the juxtaposition of fine-line naturalism and scratched on notations that keep it moving through dimensions. His work is either ours, or someone else's family tree, but clearly romance with a hesitant compass.
